In response to the latest Pentium 4 releases from the manufacturer Intel. AMD's response was the marketing of a new variant of the well-known Athlon.
This time it was christened Athlon XP. This processor had a performance improvement due to better miniaturization in the manufacturing process. Reaching up to 130 nm.
This resulted in a speed increase that allowed to obtain processor frequencies of up to 2,133 MHz.
On the other hand and almost at the same time, the same AMD released another processor with the name of Athlon MP.
The AMD MP was the first processor of the brand designed for symmetric multiprocessing, that is, placing two processors on the same motherboard.
