IBM
History

The range of 486 processors attributed to IBM were actually made by Cyrix or even VIA (when it acquired Cyrix), although they are outwardly labeled IBM. On the reverse you can see the marking of Cyrix as the manufacturer.
On the other hand, IBM did manufacture one of the first processors with RISC technology, which really stood up to the CISC systems of the time. We refer to the range of Power PC processors.

Launched in the early 1980s, the first RISC processor called the IBM 801 did not deliver the expected result. As a result of this, IBM launched the America Project, with which it wanted to create the first processor of the Power architecture (low power consumption but powerful processor).
In 1991, IBM realized the potential of its Power design and sought an alliance with Apple and Motorola to further its creation; then the AIM alliance (Apple, IBM and Motorola) emerged, whose objective was to unseat the Microsoft and Intel domain that offered systems based on 80386 and 80486.
