Story

The Pentium 4 was manufactured in three formats.

Initially they looked like the first Pentium 4 in "socket 423" format. These processors used 800 MHz RIMM-type RAM, which gave them enormous performance.

Due to the high cost of this type of memory, Intel put on sale a new processor format that used the "socket 478". This format allowed to use a much cheaper type of memory, which immediately resulted in an increase in sales of Pentium 4, which until then were stagnant due to the high price of RAM, which made the whole machine more expensive. The memory used was DDR and it was the same used by other manufacturers (such as AMD, Cyrix, etc.), it was a sufficiently proven memory, with a more affordable cost and with a fairly good performance.

In the final era of this processor and just before the multi-core processors of the next range appeared, Intel released the "socket 775" format. This format was used for the Pentium Dual Core, the Core 2 Duo and the Core 2 Quad.
