Pentium II
Story

The Pentium II incorporated a cache memory that was divided into two levels called L1 and L2, which gave it greater performance. All these processors had built-in MMX commands and were manufactured with two different bus speeds, 66 MHz and 100 MHz.

From here Intel began to give its models technical names such as "Klamath", "Deshutes", and so on.

The world of motherboards was also revolutionized with the appearance of the socket called "Slot 1", which unlike the previous sockets that were installed horizontally, this one was made vertically.

This gave rise to a new type of specifications in the boxes where these computers were mounted, thus the ATX specification was born (until now the AT specification was used).

The ATX boxes achieved better ventilation for these processors, as well as a much more logical distribution of the components than that used up to now.

Slot 1

Slot 1 was a radical change in processor and motherboard design.

For the first time a processor was inserted vertically, instead of horizontally as was done until then.

This change gave rise to the birth of the ATX format in the boxes, since the processor needed more ventilation and therefore all the components of the motherboard were relocated again.

This new format resulted in Intel's direct competition, AMD, also making an effort to manufacture its own vertical format.
