Celeron
Story

The Celeron was initially born as a cheap version of the Pentium II. In this processor, the level 2 cache memory was reduced considerably, going from 512 KB to 128 KB.

The gossips said that the processors that did not pass the quality control in the manufacture, Intel resold them under the name of Celeron.

The truth is that Intel never said that this was the case, but on the other hand it never denied it.

The Pentium II Celeron models as well as the Pentium III Celeron were manufactured.

These processors offered a fairly low performance, compared to the Pentium II and Pentium III.

The first ones were manufactured in "Slot 1" format. Later, following another Intel policy change, they were re-manufactured in landscape format. This new format was called "Socket 370".
