80286
Story

In 1982 the 80286 was released. This revolutionary processor incorporated multitasking for the first time.

The 80286 had two modes of operation, the real mode and the protected mode.

In the first case, it behaved the same as an 8086 processor, which ensured full compatibility with existing applications for previous processors. In protected mode it was where this processor developed its full potential, capable of addressing up to 16MB of RAM.

SOCKET

LCC68

Leadlessin Chip Carrier: Socket mainly used for the ceramic processors of the 80286 range. The gold part in the lower connections of the ceramic processors stands out. There was also a variant perta the plastic processors, with the denomination PLCC.

PGA68

Pin Grid Array: It was a type of socket used in some 80286 processors. Following the same principle as the DIP (Dual iIn Line), this time they were manufactured in two rows of square pins. In this way, more pins could be covered without the need to lengthen the shape of the processor.

Used in the 80286, 80386 DX and in the sockets of some 80387 type math coprocessors.

PLCC68

Plastic Leaded Chip Carrier: This type of package has a square or rectangular shape and its number of pins ranges from 20 to 84.

The advantage of the PLCC package is that it can be mounted directly on the board or mounted on the PLCC socket.
